Bibliography

In this section you will find lists of books, magazines, websites, blogs and useful links. It is important to increase your knowledge and having a few books is always a good idea. Here are the ones I recommend for the quality of the information and the relevance of the content. The most up to date French book is Des Poules dans ma cour. Others are from France with indications specific to Europe. Some are available at low prices in Kindle version on Amazon. English books have easy reading levels. There are information guides available for poultry owners.

The following resources are reliable, free and available online:

• A complete guide to backyard poultry farming published by the EQCMA is available at http://www.eqcma.ca/elevage-de-basse-cour/introduction. This guide was developed specifically for backyard poultry owners to inform them about regulations to consider as well as good production practices to follow to keep their birds healthy and what to do in case of illness.

• Information on animal diseases, precautions to be taken and owners’ obligations are available in the animal health section of the MAPAQ website athttp://www.mapaq.gouv.qc.ca.

Tips for preventing and detecting the disease in small flocks and pet birds are available on the CFIA website at http://www.inspection.gc.ca/animaux/animaux-terrestres/maladies/notions-debase-sur-la-sante-des-oiseaux/fra/1323643634523/1323644740109.

Like me, you've had chickens for a few years and you think that online training or books are not for you? Think again! You quickly realize the quality of the information and how much research has been done in order to be able to create such complete tools. It's never too late to learn and modify, even a little, our practices in order to offer even better to our chickens. Don't like to read? Give yourself the gift of online training, or you'll love the book that reads itself!Congratulations! For me, you are THE reference person!

I took the online training (webinar) offered by Urban Chicken Coops because I had the idea of building an urban chicken coop this summer. I didn't know anything about chickens or coops, and the information I found online was often contradictory. Until I found the Urban Chicken Coops website! The training offered is complete (very) and Ms. Arbour transmits her knowledge in a simple and understandable way for everyone. I highly recommend her!
