Shelters, sanctuaries and farms for our chickens
If you are able to host hens as a shelter please contact us at info@poulesenville.com so that we can add your contact information to the list on this page! You must explain to us your installations and your integration and biosecurity procedures. We hope to communicate some shelters in all regions of Quebec. No hen should be abandoned or left unprotected for any reason.
Much remains to be done in Quebec and Canada to improve the fate of laying hens. In fact, the industry only keeps them for about 18 months for optimal performance. Millions of chickens are slaughtered every year while they can still lay eggs and could live up to 5-6 years.
See the website and video on the project to save laying hens. We must strive towards practices that are more respectful of our animals for animal welfare. Humans need to find a better balance in order to feed themselves fairly and without cruelty to animals.
In the near future, I look forward to introducing you to various organizations that can support the sustainable development of our poultry industries.
