Seniors’ facilities, daycares, schools and community gardens are perfect places to start a laying hen care project. It will be my pleasure to meet you there to talk about the project in the form of aconference and visit interested schools. You are invited to check the legislation in your areas and or obtain a permit from your city.

At the moment, most cities do not have regulations concerning laying hens in our yards as pets. They only have regulations governing the rural area and animal husbandry dating back to the 1960s in Quebec and most provinces. Steps must be taken to explain this new practice to our elected officials. ( A geolocation map indicates the cities that tolerate and allow urban hens.)

My guide of more than 350 pages (For the legality of laying hens in urban and residential areas) was scanned and sent to all Quebec municipalities in the spring of 2016.

The hen being a sensitive and nervous animal it is very important to understand the functioning of its social life, its morals and its behavior in the natural environment. Domestic hens are backyard animals that have their own codes and also a coherent social structure.

Like me, you've had chickens for a few years and you think that online training or books are not for you? Think again! You quickly realize the quality of the information and how much research has been done in order to be able to create such complete tools. It's never too late to learn and modify, even a little, our practices in order to offer even better to our chickens. Don't like to read? Give yourself the gift of online training, or you'll love the book that reads itself!Congratulations! For me, you are THE reference person!

I took the online training (webinar) offered by Urban Chicken Coops because I had the idea of building an urban chicken coop this summer. I didn't know anything about chickens or coops, and the information I found online was often contradictory. Until I found the Urban Chicken Coops website! The training offered is complete (very) and Ms. Arbour transmits her knowledge in a simple and understandable way for everyone. I highly recommend her!
